A password-protected directory is a folder which cannot be accessed unless the correct login details are offered. This may be a whole site or simply one page which is located in a subfolder. If you try to open such a directory, you'll see a browser pop-up in which you must enter a username and also a password. In case you type in the right ones, you will be able to continue surfing around the content without the need to do anything additional. When the login details aren't right, however, you will see a message that you are not permitted to view the content. When this option is active, you will not be able to open a file even though you may have a direct link. The function is incredibly handy if you'd like to limit the access to some content or if you are creating a site and you don't want visitors to be able to access it prior to it being ready.
Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take merely several clicks and a few seconds when you host your Internet sites in a cloud hosting account with us. You will not have to do anything difficult - you'll need to pick a domain/subdomain, to choose which folder under it should be secured, and then to input the login name and password that will be used to access that folder. In case a number of people require their own login credentials, there shall not be a problem to make a variety of different usernames with access to the same folder. All secured folders will appear with a padlock icon in the File Manager section, so you shall always know where this option is enabled. If you wish to disable the security function for any folder, you can disable it from the same exact section of the Control Panel in which you have enabled it.
Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you have a semi-dedicated server account with us, you'll be able to secure any content you have uploaded through our protection tool. Its interface is as simple and intuitive as that of the Hepsia CP it is a part of, so you'll not have to input any code at any time. You will only need to pick one of the domains/subdomains you have in the hosting account and to determine which folder should be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You may then enter the username and the password, that'll be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be good to go. The protection will be turned on immediately, so anyone that tries to access the recently protected folder shall have to input the right login details. When a number of individuals must be able to open the same content, you could set up a separate username for each one.
